Carlos Broens

Carlos Broens - Macarthur Business Hall of Fame recipient 2007

Carlos was born in Argentina and did his apprenticeship as a Technician Toolmaker in 1967 in Cordoba.

In 1972 he married Mimi in the town of his birth, Alta Gracia, and in 1973 he and Mimi immigrated to Australia and settled in Campbelltown where they built a house in Ruse in 1976.

Carlos established Broens Toolmaking (later to become Broens Industries) in 1979. In the time since its establishment Broens has grown dramatically to become a diverse manufacturing company. During the first three years Broens established a large enough customer base to rent a factory at Prestons, Liverpool. The company continued to grow and by 1986 occupied three units in the factory complex when space was at a premium. Consistent growth however saw the need to expand once again and land was purchased at Ingleburn in August 1986 to build a new factory. But it wasn't long before the company had outgrown this factory and in 1995 Broens moved to the current premises in Williamson Road, Ingleburn, where the business continues to expand.

Carlos started the company as a two-man operation in 1979, and because of his entrepreneurship and drive it has grown consistently to its current size of 150 employees. Throughout the history of the company Carlos has maintained a growth path developed with a focus on sustainability. This focus has meant that the company has had very few periods where workforce reductions have been required.

Some of the key factors that have led to the strong continuous success of Broens include the commitment made by Carlos to quality and innovation. The quality of Broens workmanship and business systems has built an outstanding reputation within industry for reliability of products and on-time delivery.

As a major employer within the Macarthur Region, Carlos Broens is committed to the expansion of the Macarthur area. In particular, he is proud of the opportunities provided at Broens for young people. Over the years Broens has trained many people to highly skilled levels in both trades and other technical/professional roles. Carlos Broens currently employs 34 apprentices and expects that number to increase to 40 in 2008. The company, now in its expanded form and dealing heavily in the global market, is providing enormous opportunities for its own people and its range of local suppliers to gain experience dealing in international business.

Carlos Broens and his company are the winners of several prestigious industry awards.
