Macarthur Economic Profile - May 2007

The Macarthur Economic Profile is a quarterly publication produced by the Macarthur Regional Organisation of Councils (MACROC) to provide key economic, business and social indicators.

There were an estimated 243,405 persons residing in the Macarthur Region in 2006, representing growth of 0.4% from 2005. Camden and Wollondilly recorded growth rates of 1.7% and 1.6%, respectively, while the larger population of Campbelltown declined by 0.3%. Over the past five years, the Macarthur Region has recorded an average annual population growth rate of 0.8%, consistent with the average growth rate for both Sydney and New South Wales of 0.8%.

The Macarthur Region population is projected to increase at an average annual growth rate of 1.7% to a population of approximately 370,000 persons by 2031 based on population projections published by the NSW Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources. This projected growth is almost double the average projected for Sydney of 0.9% per annum. Camden is projected to record the fastest average growth rate of 3.8% per annum.
