Annual Report - 20032003 has been an eventful year for MACROC, my first as its President. In December 2002 a selection committee comprising Sheridan Dudley, Paul Tosi, Barry Daley and myself selected new MACROC Executive Officer Ms Lindy Babb. The selection process was the culmination of a year of decisions regarding the future of MACROC. I am personally very pleased with the decision to continue the operation of MACROC as a Region of Councils in its own right. As one of the fastest growing regions in New South Wales, and with significant opportunities for world-class facilities to be made available, MACROC is well placed to voice and act upon the desires of the communities of the Macarthur Region. Having only three member councils, MACROC is the smallest Region of Councils (RoC) in New South Wales, and while there may be challenges associated with this small membership, there are also significant opportunities to actively engage the communities of the member councils in a way not easily achieved in the larger RoCs. With the commencement of Ms Babb as Executive Officer in January 2003 and Ms Sue Lambert as Executive Assistant in April 2003, MACROC is again equipped to take a regional leadership role in local government issues. I encourage all member Councillors to continue their active participation in regional leadership of local government issues. The MACROC Board of Directors formally adopted the 2003 Business Plan in February 2003. The Business Plan is based on the objectives and Mission Statement of the MACROC Charter, and includes the four key focus areas, Environmental Sustainability, Economic Development, Community Accessibility and achieving a Fair Share of Government Services for Macarthur. A series of outcome statements pertaining to each set of activities allows the Board of Directors to gauge MACROC’s progress at each of its bi-monthly meetings. A list of highlights from the Business Plan is included in the body of this Annual Report. Among other activities this year, MACROC is the Sponsor of two projects under the Federal Government’s Sustainable Regions Fund. Opportunities for such leadership will continue. I assure you that MACROC will make every effort via such projects to continuously improve the quality of life of the Macarthur Region.
