Macarthur Economic Profile - March 2009

The Macarthur Economic Profile is a quarterly publication produced by the Macarthur Regional Organisation of Councils (MACROC) to provide key economic, business and social indicators.

The major highlights are:

a) The number of building approvals increased by 1.7% to 177 in the December Quarter, although on a year on year basis it declined by 18.3%.

b) The median house prices in Campbelltown and Wollondilly increased by 1.0% and 13.9% respectively, whilst Camden median house prices decreased by 2.0% in the 2008 September Quarter.

c) The unemployment rate for Macarthur rose by 0.5 percentage points to 5.4% during the quarter to September 2008.

d) Productivity in the Macarthur region (measured by value added per hour worked) rose by 7.8% in 2007/08 to reach $223.42 per hour.
