Macarthur Economic Profile - August 2007

The Macarthur Economic Profile is a quarterly publication produced by the Macarthur Regional Organisation of Councils (MACROC) to provide key economic, business and social indicators.

The estimated number of employed persons in the Macarthur Region increased by 1.1% in the March Quarter 2007 to 123,513 persons. This figure was 3.4% higher than that recorded in the March Quarter 2006 (119,423). The unemployment rate for Macarthur increased by 0.1 percentage points to 7.0% in the March Quarter 2007, 1.1 percentage points higher over the year. Camden recorded the lowest unemployment rate (3.0%), followed by Wollondilly (4.3%) and Campbelltown (9.1%).

The number of unemployed persons in the Macarthur Region increased by 24.2% over the year to the March Quarter 2007, whilst the size of the labour force increased by 4.6% over this same period, explaining the increase in the unemployment rate.
